Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
To the east, the Bucegi Mountains have a very steep slope towards the popular tourist destinations in the Prahova Valley, such as Bușteni and Sinaia. At a higher elevation is the Bucegi Plateau, where wind and rain have turned the rocks into spectacular figures such as the Sphinx and Babele. The Bucegi is believed to be the Dacian holy mountain Kogaionon, on which the God Zalmoxis resided in a cave.
Duration/return: 4 hours
Transbucegi Road was inaugurated in 2013 and you can find it on the map as DJ 713. The portion accessible by car ends at Plaiul lui Păcală. From here you go on a foot hike to Babele. The route takes about an hour, an hour and a half depending on the physical condition and other factors like weather, adequate shoes, etc.
The Commemorative Cross to the Romanian Heroes of the First World War is a monument built between 1926 and 1928 on Caraiman Peak at an altitude of 2,291 m located in the Bucegi Mountains of the Southern Carpathians. It has a height of 39.3 metres (129 ft) and the nearest town is Buşteni. The name of the monument is “The Heroes’ Cross”, but it is popularly known as the “Cross on Caraiman”. The route starts near the Babele chalet and is taking about an hour, an hour and a half.
Duration/return: 3 hours
Please, remember that you can complete only one of the activities (generally first one, Babele and The Sphinx) or it can be merged with other activities from Bucegi Mountains.
